30th Annual Greek Festival
Today we checked out the 30th Annual Greek Festival at St Paul's Greek Orthodox Church around the corner from our house. There were lots of great things to look at. I think Dimitrios' favorite was the bounce houses.
Here is some of the Greek coffee. It smelled great and Jeff said it was really good.
I can't get past the "crunchy" part of it. This is what the cup looks like when you finish.
Here is the food starting from the top and working clockwise: Chicken Souvlaki (skewered chicken seasoned to perfection and served on a pita bread), Dolmathes (stuffed grape leaves with lamb and beef and served with avgolemono sauce), spanakopita (spinach pie laced with feta cheese), loukaniko (Greek sausage seasoned with herbs and lemon juice sauteed and served with feta cheese and kalamata olives), and lamb chops and fries (Greek style seasoning, grilled). More food was available but we were just able to finish all this between the three of us. Dimitrios favorite meat was the sausage though he did eat one of the lamb chops by himself.
Dessert was great! It consisted of Loukoumathes (Greek doughnuts covered with honey and cinnamon) which were absolutely wonderful and a baklava sundae (chocolate or vanilla ice cream with crumbled baklava on top) which tasted good as well. Still can't beat Mom or Jeff's baklava but it was good.
It was great to see some of the traditional folk dancers. I may even have convinced Jeff to learn how to dance.
The costumes were very colorful on the ladies and the men's were nice and simple. We will definitely be checking this out again next year (or maybe even tomorrow).
Good food, good wine, good times! Kali Orexi (Good appetite)
