Newport Sea Base Opening Day 2011
The opening day of the Newport Sea Base is always fun. Mostly because you get to check out the boats each Ship crews. You also get a good look at what adventures the Ships have throughout the year. Like sailing up to the Catalina Island for hiking and camping.

The color guard for opening ceremonies.

The Orange County Sheriff Department Maritime Division boat shoots a jet of water in a show of respect for the raising of the flag and our national anthem. The OC Sheriff Dept is a huge supporter of the Newport Sea Base and the Boy Scouts of America. The speech the representative gave was very complimentary of both organizations.

The main speaker for the Sea Base shared some of his experiences with the Sea Scouts.

The color guard stayed this way through the entire ceremony, at the end of which they were dismissed by the ringing of the bell to officially open the Sea Base.

The cabin of Old No. 9.

Old No. 9 getting a face lift from the owner.

The galley of the DARE.

The navigational charts on the DARE. Our son found them very interesting.

Looking up the main mast of the DARE.

A view from the sailboat we took out into the Newport Harbor. You can see all the boats that the various Ships crew, like The Triton, The DARE, and the Del Mar, all decked out for opening day.

The boys were able to crew the sailboat (with help from one of the sea scouts) we took out into the Newport Harbor. One even took the tiller.
