Brown Belt Graduation

Our son has been testing for his brown belt in Kung Fu for the last couple weeks. On December 18 he received it at the school graduation. Wahoo! Way to go Kiddo!
Waiting for the ceremony to start. He is sitting next to some of his friends from his Kids 1 class.

Bowing in to start the ceremony.

Receiving his brown belt from his instructor.

At the end of the awards ceremony is the "tying on of belts" part of the ceremony. Here the families are invited onto the mat to take off the "old" belt and tie on the new. Off comes the green belt...

and on goes the brown belt! We are so proud of him!

This is a fun picture the boys took with their two instructors. The man on the right is his main instructor and the one on the left is the assistant instructor who is going for his black belt. He will find out later if he gets awarded at the next graduation ceremony.

The testing for the higher belts is done behind closed doors as is tradition in Kung Fu. The only people allowed into the testing are those who are being tested and the instructors who are administering the testing. There is also a longer period between awarding of the belts from this point forward. Our son was told that he will have to work extra hard from this point on as the expectations are much higher.
