Cub Scout Hike in November
This year we took the cub scouts to the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Educational Center for our fall hike. The day wasn't too hot or too cool so the hike was very pleasant. We came across some really fun things (animal tracks, insect homes, plants, birds, and bugs).
This was our group (minus me as I am taking the picture).
This is a bug that was crossing the trail we were on. Not sure what it is (Uncle Mike will probably know) but it was about 2 inches long and pretty darn fast. It didn't care that we were watching what it was doing.
The red spot is actually the fruit if the cactus. Called either a prickly pear or cactus pear, I think. We tried it once and the flesh is a very bright pink color with lots of seeds. Wasn't our favorite but it was fun to try.
The boys seems to have a good time and, even though they were somewhat noisy, they actually spotted a lot of interesting things along the way. We ended up having to have the boys between the adults because we came across several mountain bikers and horseback riders.
The boys got a nice patch to commemorate the hike.
